Summer is a popular time to travel and people are always looking for direct international routes, whenever possible. Recognizing this, United Airlines announced it will add two new nonstop routes between the United States and Spain for the summer 2022:

  • Palma de Mallorca, Spain: Starting June 2, 2022, travel from New York/Newark to Mallorca in a Boeing 767-300. United will offer flights three times a week.
  • Tenerife, Spain: Starting June 9, 2022, travel from  New York/Newark in a Boeing 757-200. United will offer flights three times a week.

Palma de Mallorca is capital of the island of Majorca is located in the bay of the same name and enjoys an excellent climate all year round. It’s also capital of the Balearic Islands region (there are 17 regions, or autonomous communities, in Spain; 15 on the mainland, and then each of the two island chains are regions/autonomous communities). Known for its sun and beach tourism, it also has an attractive historic quarter. Of note, Mallorca Jewish Quarter had a large Sephardic presence before the end of th 15th century. There’s now a small and thriving community there again today. Tenerife is one of the eight Canary Islands, also known as the Fortunate Isles. Why? Its springlike climate, its volcanic scenery, its relaxing beaches, its restaurants where haute cuisine and tradition meet, and its many special places to stay always bring a smile to the faces of its visitors. United already offers many routes between the United States and and destinations in Spain, including popular cities such as Madrid and Barcelona, (direct routes will vary by originating city). And connections to other locations in Spain are a short connecting flight away.
