Milwaukee, Wisconsin – “Aaaaay!” That’s right — in the heart of downtown Milwaukee, you can strike a pose next to one of television’s coolest characters: The Fonz. Standing along the Milwaukee Riverwalk at Wells Street, the Bronze Fonz gives you a chance to channel a little 1950s — and 1970s — cool. And celebrate one of the city’s most famous pop culture connections.

Originally unveiled in 2008, the life-sized statue by sculptor Gerald Sawyer captures Henry Winkler’s iconic Arthur Fonzarelli: mid–thumbs up — leather jacket, slicked-back hair and all. It’s hard not to smile when you see it. Locals and travelers alike stop by for a photo, often tossing out a “Heeeyyy!” of their own.
On October 30, 2025, Milwaukee celebrates Henry Winkler’s 80th birthday. It honors the actor and the character who helped link Milwaukee forever to Happy Days. But you don’t need a milestone celebration to visit. The Bronze Fonz is part of the city’s permanent charm — and it’s always ready for a selfie.
“The Fonz reminds us to stay cool, be kind, and enjoy life — all things that feel right at home in Milwaukee,” says Peggy Williams-Smith, President & CEO of Visit Milwaukee.
The Milwaukee Riverwalk itself is worth the stroll — a scenic, three-mile pathway connecting the Milwaukee Theater District, the Historic Third Ward and some of the city’s best dining and nightlife. Between bridges, murals and public art, you’ll find plenty of ways to enjoy what locals call “Milwaukee’s happy days.”
When there, if you happen to catch yourself humming the show’s theme song — “Sunday, Monday, happy days…” — you’re in good company. The Bronze Fonz is a reminder that a touch of nostalgia can make any visit a little brighter, whether you’re here for business meetings, a riverside dinner or a weekend getaway.
Because in Milwaukee, every day’s a chance to say “Aaaaay!”
