Despite economic conditions and past political criticisms, Las Vegas remains one of the biggest draws for business travel and leisure visitors in the U.S. In 2009, Las Vegas welcomed more than 36 million visitors, and Las Vegas hotels were able to maintain a city-wide occupancy of 81.5% (which is very low by Vegas standards, but would be considered high by destination standards in general).
While many visit Las Vegas for vacations, business travel, conventions and corporate meetings account for about 20% of all visitors to Las Vegas. Nearly 4.5 million visited to participate in one of the 19,395 conventions hosted there in 2009. And roughly 5% are there to participate in special events. This, according to the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority.
Many visit Las Vegas for its resorts and casinos, nearly every type of entertainment and show, shopping at some of the best stores, world class dining and chefs, indulgent spa treatments, hotel swimming pools and golf. So, which hotels should travelers consider when staying in Las Vegas for business travel, conventions, meetings and events?
