Advertising Sales Representative

The Advertising Sales Representative is an independent consultant who will sell ads and develop packages for online advertising clients – direct advertisers and ad agencies for BusinessTravelDestinations.com, building and maintaining a customer base of advertising accounts. This position is integral to achieving revenue goals. This person will set sales quotas on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis. This person must have the ability to create campaign objectives and ensure that proposals achieve the client’s and our goals. Work will primarily be over the phone and via email, but occasional travel to industry conferences may be required. This person must be flexible to handle new requests and responsibilities, and able to multi-task.

  • Develop, implement and manage the advertising strategy for site (pre- and post-sale).
  • Identify and manage accounts through all phases of the selling process, including seeking out new and qualified advertisers, closing the sale, obtaining relevant artwork, and managing the client relationship through retention.
  • Contribute to the development of sales and marketing materials, including media kits, and negotiate agreements with site advertisers.
  • Seek out new and qualified advertisers, positioning the value of our site to advertisers and maintaining relationships with advertisers.
  • Provide monthly/annual sales status report, and provide feedback to others in BusinessTravelDestinations.com for the purpose of maximizing sales efforts.
  • Provide prospect and client activity via sales activity management reports.
  • Advertising Sales Representative must remain current with online media sales trends, recommend new advertising strategies, and maintain expertise on issues/topics within the business travel industry.

RH Communications, Inc., also provides clients with marketing communications expertise, including collateral, direct marketing, newsletters, promotional gifts, printing solutions and more. Consideration may be given to the right candidate for opportunities in sales for these account services in the future.

Requirements:

3+ years experience in advertising sales — selling experience to agencies and direct sales — and preference for experience on behalf of online publications. Network of “current” contacts with agencies and the ability to establish new client relationships. Prefer selling experience with advertisers in the travel and hospitality industries. Creative thinker able to establish new prospects and possess strong follow up skills. Self-motivated, excellent oral and written communication skills, strong presentation skills, proficient in Microsoft Office and Adobe products, strong attention to detail, excellent analytical and reasoning skills, and ability to work in a small team environment. Website is built on a customized content management system, and candidate must quickly learn and use the system. Must be an individual (small firms also considered) capable of working on an independent contractor basis.

Representatives will be entrepreneurial and rewarded with a very attractive commission-based model. Prefer Chicago-based candidates, but must be capable of interacting with individuals in multiple time zones. This is a virtual opportunity: work from home and occasional travel to industry conferences and client meetings.

Destination Contributors

We are seeking local individuals (or individuals with local ties) with destination expertise to serve as destination contributors for the effective development of our business travel guides sections. These individuals will write about hotels, restaurants, venues, gifts and insider tips related to business travel and business events as guest contributors. Content is evergreen (not short term news focus). Destination contributors may also interact with their assigned advertising sales representative.

Contributors will receive byline visibility and cross-links to their content (we require a minimum of one byline article and one research report each month). We are seeking one individual in each of the following destinations at this time (if you have destination expertise for a different market not listed, please share information about yourself with us as well):
