The Roosevelt New Orleans Lobby

The Roosevelt New Orleans will celebrate the 2013 Jazz and Heritage Festival with a signing of local author David Spielman’s latest book, “When Not Performing: Portraits of New Orleans Musicians.” A published author and independent freelance photographer, Spielman has traveled the world capturing portraits and images.

An intimate glimpse into the musical world of New Orleans, “When Not Performing: Portraits of New Orleans Musicians” illustrates how New Orleans is defined by its musicians. These revealing portraits of musicians are taken in the places that define them when not on stage, each accompanied by a profile compiled from private conversations with the musicians, eloquently demonstrating how entwined their lives and talents have become. Featured are well-known personalities Jeremy Davenport, Charmaine Neville, Clarence “Frogman” Henry, Pete Fountain, Allen Toussaint, Terrence Blanchard, Irma Thomas, Dr. John and many more.
