NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas, Oct. 7, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- A grand opening event held today in New Braunfels shows off the newly remodeled Landa Park Golf Course at Comal Springs. A classic design by Finger Dye Spann, Inc. of Katy, Texas, the course flows with the terrain and makes the most of the natural beauty of the area.

The signature hole 16 at Landa Park Golf Course at Comal Springs is a short demanding par 4 with the largest bunker complex on the course - both challenging and unique. "The Landa Park Golf Course at Comal Springs is not very long but golfers will hit most every club in their bag," said designer Baxter Spann, Vice-President of Finger Dye Spann, Inc. "The course has a good variety of interesting par 4s, three full length par 5s, and par 3 holes of varying lengths and settings."

"The Landa Park Golf Course at Comal Springs is not very long but golfers will hit most every club in their bag," said designer Baxter Spann, Vice-President of Finger Dye Spann, Inc. "The course has a good variety of interesting par 4s, three full length par 5s, and par 3 holes of varying lengths and settings.  Deer are plentiful along the fairways which combined with the woodlands along the river and views of the nearby Schlitterbahn castle tower makes for an idyllic golf setting."

There are four tee locations for all skill levels and the challenging but friendly course is easy to walk. Some highlights include:

  • Holes 3 and 4 which are back to back par 5s with green side bunkers on 3 and a fairway bunker that challenges the tee shot on 4. Water hazards guard both sides of the approach on 3 and off the tee on 4.
  • The beautiful 9 hole is a short but demanding par 3 where golfers must play over the Comal River and the 10 green, also a par 3, is perched just above the Comal and guarded by a green side bunker.
  • 16 is a short demanding par 4 with the largest bunker complex on the course – likely to become the signature hole as it is both challenging and unique.
  • 18 is a par 4 with a challenging tee shot to a narrow fairway protected by bunkers.

"The Landa Park Golf Course has been a gem in New Braunfels since opening in 1938," said Barron Casteel, Mayor, City of New Braunfels. "A diverse parks system is a critical component to maintaining a high quality of life, offering the amenities, resources and opportunities that support a flourishing community. This investment respects and builds upon the legacy and vision of the citizens who in 1936 called for a bond election to purchase property that became Landa Park. Building on unique assets like Landa Park Golf Course, helps us recruit and grow businesses and jobs for our community."

Covering approximately 122 acres, Landa Park Golf Course at Comal Springs is an 18-hole, par 71, 6,204-yard course. A 10,000-square-foot green with a bunker in the middle provides a short game practice area with one side for putting and the other for pitching/chipping and bunker work.  There is a 5,000-square-foot clubhouse with a sports bar and a pro shop with a full line of golf bags, balls, shirts, shoes, gloves, hats, clubs and club rentals. The upstairs fully-enclosed dining room is available for private functions seating approximately 100. A new fleet of sixty 2015 EZ-Go golf carts is also available.

Two PGA Class A professionals are on staff to help golfers work on and improve their game – Chad Donegan, PGA Head Golf Professional and Quint Alexander, PGA Assistant Golf Professional.

"For many years, forward-thinkers in our community offered conceptual plans for renovating the golf course and club house," said Jeff Lindley, Chairman, Landa Park Golf Course Advisory Board. "Today the years of perseverance are rewarded. Historically, New Braunfels has been a vacation destination and an envied residential community. Recently, we have seen an unprecedented increase in development. The new Landa Park Golf Course at Comal Springs is an ideal addition and everyone, golfers and non-golfers, should take pride in what our community leaders have accomplished. I congratulate all current and previous members of the Golf Course Advisory Boards and community leaders for their unrelenting efforts."
