Special events and signature drinks go hand in hand. And there’s no bigger special event than New Year’s Eve — except maybe the morning after.

While many planners aren’t likely to include a specialty hangover drink for their conferences, I think we can all appreciate the concept when it makes sense. And I have to give a shout out to the food and beverage team at Lockwood Restaurant at the Palmer House Hilton in Chicago.

They have come up with a one of a kind vodka experience as part of their breakfast and lunch menus this New Year’s Day:

Palmer House Bloody Mary ($10):

Belvedere Unfiltered Vodka is barrel aged at the Palmer House in Minnesota Oak Barrels for 8 weeks. The vodka is then infused with an assortment of hot peppers, onions, celery, olives, lemons, limes and peppercorns.  Each Blody mary is made to order with tomato juice, Guinness beer, Worcestershire sauce, horseradish, A1, assorted salts/seasonings, Tabasco sauce, lemon and lime juice.

And, in addition to its standard menus, they’ve added a couple menu items for that day only which are sure to  catch your attention:

Chilaquiles ($14):  Picked red onion, pinto beans, poached egg, queso fresco

The Ugly Burger ($16): Double stack of slagel farm’s beef, bacon, cheddar & American cheese, chili, fried egg

For those who are curious, Lockwood Restaurant is an upscale and modern restaurant in this historic hotel. They have a locally and seasonally influenced menu, and an extensive wine menu. It’s open for breakfast, lunch, dinner and afternoon tea (and an intimate private dining room for special events).

Cheers to Palmer House for thinking outside the box and inspiring new ideas!
