Travel Community Indicates Upcoming Release of Best Practice Standards for Corporate Events
To highlight the importance of the business travel and events industry as a major U.S. employer of jobs, several industry associations have joined together and announced that they will issue best practice standards for corporate events. In their press release, they indicate that government criticism to cancel some planned programs will result in a loss of jobs for "unintended victims" of cuts in the meetings, events and incentive travel programs industry.
While it's reasonable to assume that job loss will occur whenever dollars are spent, I suspect that politicians who speak out against these programs are likely to be very aware of the numbers of employees who may be affected when they urge organizers to cancel events -- or, at least they should be.
Further, the government sector is a major force in the meetings and events industry, hosting numerous high end programs annually, despite its budget deficit in the trillions of dollars at the federal level, as well as budget shortfalls at the state and local levels.
