Considering Vail Hotels for Meetings? The Lodge at Vail Offers Classic Experience for Business Travel
Like many others, I have stayed away from Vail for the last few years while new construction and refurbishment have been scheduled. But Vail is Vail, and even though it has been building new properties (many of which have been completed), people will go there in winter and summer -- with or without cranes. So I spent a couple days in the Vail area earlier this summer, exploring a couple of Vail hotels and learning more about what is happening with Rock Resorts and Vail Resorts in Colorado.
For those who may not have been there lately, The Lodge at Vail has not taken its prestigous Vail Village address - which has been attracting business travelers since 1962 - for granted. The Lodge at Vail has been given a facelift, including the addition of Vail Day Spa, a 7,500 square foot, state-of-the-art spa with 11 treatment rooms. There's also a 3,500 square foot fitness complex.
Of course, Vail is chosen as a business travel destination because of its allure for skiing in the winter and outdoor activities in the summer. Many organizations bring their groups to Vail to host meetings during the day and activities in the evening (or afternoon).
My visit was just prior to the summer season, so I had a vegetarian dinner at Cucina Rustica (reflective of the menu capabilities of The Wildflower and The Lodge at Vail's catering department): red and golden watermelon tartar for the first course; carmelized onion, potato and artichoke galette for the main course; and blanc manger -- which is a vanilla almond pudding with hibiscus pina colada soup garnished with grapefruit sorbet. (My host did surprise us with a tasting of Iberian ham during the main course.) The Wildflower is the main gourmet restaurant for The Lodge at Vail.
Although many people are just getting ready for the Labor Day holidays, meeting and event planners are preparing for their fall and winter meeting and events schedule.
