Business Travel Cancun, Mexico

What You Should Know for Planning Business Meetings in Cancun, Mexico

Located on Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula in the southeastern state of Quintana Roo, Cancun is known for its white sand beaches, breathtaking turquoise waters, history, historical Mayan culture and archaeological sites. When this tourist destination embraced its ecological framework and added an extensive infrastructure, Cancun blossomed into a hot spot for business travel. Pretty impressive considering that nearly four decades ago Cancun was a heap of sand slabs primarily inhabited by Mayan villages.

Recently Cancun’s 14 miles long strip of white sand beaches underwent a $71 million makeover. Today population has soared to 700,000 while Cancun continues to attract nearly 3 million international tourists and business travelers, of which 18% are business travelers, groups and conventions.

For example, the United Nations held its high-level Climate Change Conference (COP 16) in December 2010. Over 28,000 attendees from 92 countries descended upon Cancun for the COP 16, an optimal opportunity to showcase a city that continues to re-invent itself for business travel. When the sand settled, the international COP 16 event was a coup for Cancun business travel after successfully hosting demanding press contingencies, participating NGO’s and Heads of State, and officers from around the globe.

For qualified meeting and event planners, the annual Mexico Showcase & Travel Expo in Cancun is an opportunity to experience some of Cancun’s business travel highlights. Combined with the handling of recent international events, it is apparent Cancun is prime for business travel.

One of the most popular group activities in Cancun is a visit to Xcaret, (See Video Below) a magical, mystical and ecological journey into the Mayan World.
